How to Tie Oblong Silk Scarves

How to Tie Oblong Silk Scarves

A colorful oblong scarf adds a touch of maturity and sophistication to a casual or professional outfit.

Things You'll Need:

Cashmere Shawl

Oblong Scarves

Silk Scarf

Step
1

Flatter a tunic or boatneck sweater, as well as a blazer or suit jacket, with this "hacking" knot:

Step
2

Bring the ends of the scarf together to make a loop.

Step
3

Hold the ends in a closed hand, and open the loop end slightly with your other hand. Drape the scarf around the back of your neck, pull forward, then slip the loose ends through the looped end.

Step
4

Pull the ends through until the scarf fits snuggly around your neck. Center the knot below your throat.

Step
5

Experiment with the fit of your scarf. Some women prefer a very snug fit that's close to the throat, while others fancy a more relaxed, loose fit.

Step
6

Let the ends dangle.

Tips & Warnings

Decorate a solid scarf with a pin or brooch. Affix the pin on the top of the loop, centering it in the same line as your Adam's apple.

Hand wash or dry-clean your scarves regularly, depending on frequency of wear. The oils in your skin and general dirt can render vibrant colors flat and lifeless.

Be careful when using pins or brooches, as pulling or tugging on fragile material may leave permanent holes or tears.
